The San Francisco chiropractor who fixed my bulging discs and made life worth living again also saved me from having a potentially dangerous surgery. I come from a family with chronic back problems. Both parents suffered from back issues throughout their lives, but my father really had the worst experiences with his back pain. We lived out in the sticks back in the 1960s and there wasn’t anything like a chiropractor around. Dad served in Korea so he had to rely upon the VA for his health care. What a disaster that turned out to be.
They loaded him up on painkillers, which he got addicted to because no one back then really thought about things like that. Then they said they could only help him if they did a surgery on his back. He agreed because he had no other options. I still remember the year and a half he spent lying in bed because the surgery caused more problems than it helped. He eventually got back on his feet, but he was never the same. He eventually got off the pills and was able to resume working, but it was never the same for him.
Thanks to the chiropractor I visited, I’ll likely never need to go through an awful surgery. My chiropractor diagnosed a bulging disc and the took steps to correct the problem that resulted in much less pain and better mobility. I also didn’t need to take painkillers like my father did. Knowledge about back problems certainly has come a long way, but I’ll take a good chiropractor over a surgeon any day of the week. Surgeons never see a problem they think they can’t fix with a scalpel. The chiropractor takes a holistic view of the situation and tries to determine which solution will work. I’ll take the latter every time.
